Co-op funeralcare in Greenock take on charity challenge

KIND staff from a Greenock funeral directors are taking on a charity challenge to raise awareness of mental health issues. The team at Co-op Funeralcare in West Blackhall Street will help cover 100km in May to generate funds for the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) and MIND. Staff will be running, walking and cycling to reach the milestone together with other Co-op Funeralcare branches in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. The charity champions have already smashed through the £1,000 barrier to reach £1,700 with three weeks still to go. Co-op Funeralcare service manager Pauline Spittal said: Everyone is very supportive of one another and this challenge has brought us closer together as a team.

Children across the country have been out of school, had limited contact with support networks outside the home and have been unable to spend time with friends. Our Childline counsellors have heard from children about the impact this had on their mental and emotional health, with some talking about low mood and others feeling anxious and overwhelmed. And we know the same is true for parents, many have had to juggle work and home-schooling, while others have been furloughed and faced financial difficulties and many have felt isolated.

#ArtUnlocks aims to bring audiences back to Glasgow culture events

And the sector has launched a new campaign - #ArtUnlocks - to encourage people to find out what cultural opportunities are opening up in their neighbourhoods. Across Glasgow a range of exhibitions and galleries are taking part in the push, organised by Scottish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN). SCAN Director Moira Jeffrey said: As Scotland begins to open up after a long, tough winter, we’re delighted to be sharing the good news that contemporary art is safe, family-friendly and opening soon in your neighbourhood.

Rachel s 200-mile trek from Edinburgh to York Minster

A WOMAN is planning to walk from Edinburgh to York to raise money for a mental health charity after witnessing the impact of the pandemic and lockdowns on her family, friends and neighbours, and herself. Rachel Boani, 21, of Acomb, who is a student at Edinburgh University, is planning to make the trek of more than 200 miles from Edinburgh Castle to York Minster over 12 days at the end of July. The former Manor CE and All Saint’s RC School pupil says she has already been training for the expedition by walking, biking and running all over Edinburgh, including walking the ‘Seven Hills of Edinburgh’ challenge, which took her just over five hours to complete.
