Should Nicola Sturgeon be worried?

When Scots go to the polls on May 6 to vote for which MSPs will represent them in the Scottish Parliament for the next five years, there will be a new party on the ballot paper, albeit fronted by a familiar face.
The Alba Party, led by former SNP First Minister Alex Salmond, did not exist when elections were postponed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But the pro-independence party hopes that this year they can to pick up votes from Mr Salmond s former ally, Nicola Sturgeon.
Although unlikely to win a large number of seats according to current polls, a small win could still have political implications for the SNP.
SCOTTISH Conservatives leader Douglas Ross MP started his final day of campaigning for the Holyrood elections in Haddington as he joined local candidate Craig Hoy for a spot of sightseeing and delivering leaflets. Mr Ross admired the view from the Nungate Bridge as he spoke of his optimism for his party s results, with the Scottish Parliament Election taking place tomorrow (Thursday). And he joined Mr Hoy in delivering leaflets to residents in Gateside before heading across the country for a final push on the campaign trail. Mr Ross said: It has been very strange not being able to do normal door knocking and we have had to adapt our methods. As restrictions have eased, we have been getting out a bit more and people have been really positive.

However, the first minister said she did not describe Thursday s vote as a de facto referendum on whether there should be another referendum on Scottish independence, instead saying it s an election .
Should Ms Sturgeon win a majority, Peter Smith said he would expect the first minister to push for another referendum within this parliamentary term and once the coronavirus pandemic has passed. It s not a defacto referendum, it s an election , First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tells ITV News
Ms Sturgeon s comments come as a poll for STV suggests there is a chance the SNP could win that outright majority on Thursday.
