Credit: St Albans Lib Dems The Liberal Democrats have taken overall control of St Albans District Council after a fine set of election results. The city’s MP, Daisy Cooper, has hailed the news as amazing after the 2021 local election count held at Batchwood Sports Centre. Although the council was being led by Liberal Democrat Chris White, it had been in no overall control since 2019 after the Conservatives lost vital seats - the Tories had previously been in control of the council. After the latest set of votes, the council is now represented by 30 Lib Dem councillors, along with 23 Conservatives, two from Labour, two Independents, and a Green councillor.

Harper Lane in Radlett finally reopens fully to drivers

Harper Lane fully reopened to drivers on Tuesday after many months of frustration from drivers and businesses. The junction near Radlett should have reopened in February at the latest, but a blunder during the construction phase meant not enough turning space had been given to lorry drivers, which was putting pedestrians at risk. Hertfordshire County Council and housing developer Bloor Homes have since worked together to resolve the issue, which involved removing a traffic island that was making it difficult for large vehicles to turn right out of Harper Lane and into Watling Street. Larger vehicles were struggling to make this turn out of Harper Lane and into Watling Street due to the placement of a new traffic island
