Within a week of this wonderful news her world came crashing down around her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now 10 years on with the CervicalCheck controversy still unresolved, Evelyn investigates what sort of experience women who are diagnosed with cancer have today. In the feature length authored documentary Evelyn O’Rourke: Ailse & Ise on May 12 9.30pm on TG4, broadcaster Evelyn meets women, their families, doctors, and service providers to investigate the medical, emotional, psychological, and sociological elements that women with cancer experience and to explore how we can deliver the kind of effective and humane service every Irish woman experiencing cancer deserves.

Peacefully at St Vincent s University Hospital, Dublin surrounded by his family. Kieran is sadly missed by his wife Christine, children Eoin, Christina, Ciaran, Enda, Ciara and Siobhán, grandchildren, sisters Ann, Kathleen, Rita and brother Michael, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and a large circle of friends. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday,  April 29 at 11am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Castlecomer (for immediate family only) followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

This week it was announced that Dublin’s Mater Misericordiae Hospital has been earmarked as the Major Trauma Centre for the Central Network.

Mater Hospital new Major Trauma Centre The Mater Misericordiae Hospital, located on Dublin’s north inner city, has been announced as the Major Trauma Centre for the Central Network (April 27). St Vincent’s University Hospital and Tallaght University Hospital, both on the southside of Dublin, have been designated as the two Trauma Units for the Central Region. Under the ‘A Trauma System for Ireland’ report, the Trauma Policy for Ireland Steering group recommended creating a “hub and spoke” model of care with two regional trauma networks, each with a major trauma centre and trauma units. Cork University Hospital has already been identified as the Major Trauma Centre for the South Major Trauma Network. Trauma care for children is to be provided at the new children’s hospital which is to be the paediatric Major Trauma Centre.
