Dubai: The oldest Bahraini blacksmith, Haji Khalil Ibrahim Al Haddad, passed away yesterday after dedicating more than six decades of his life to his profession. He was 81. Haji Khalil, the chief blacksmith of Al Haddad family in Manama, spent more than 60 years in the business in central Manama near Bab Al Bahrain, and in his factory in Jabla Habashi and Al Naim. Haji Khalil was known for his love and passion for his profession as he continued his work until the last days of his life by guiding his peers. He was looked up to as a father-figure, as he was known for his high morals and his honest dealings with customers and visitors.

Bahrain: Religious ceremonies go online due to COVID-19

Cairo: Bahrain’s Jaffariya Awqaf (endowments) directorate has said that religious ceremonies, scheduled for the new Islamic month of Rajab, will be held live online due to an increase in the COVID-19 cases. The directorate added in a statement that the step aims at protecting health of the attendees, mainly the old people, from potential infections. Regulations for the ceremonies set by the directorate include limiting attendance to the transmission and administrative crews to a maximum of five people at one time. No old people or sufferers of chronic diseases must be among those five who must abide by the anti-virus precautions, the directorate said.

Bahrain: Nine people jailed over tax evasion

Dubai: Nine people have been arrested in Bahrain after being found guilty of importing selective goods without paying taxes, importing and selling banned herbal materials, local media reported. The nine suspects were also found guilty of engaging in commercial activities without a license. Accordingly, the Lower Criminal Court has handed them jail terms ranging from one to three years, ordered of them to pay BD5,000. In addition, expats suspects will also be deported after serving their terms. The court has also ordered the confiscation of the prohibited materials and the seizure of monetary sums, Ministries and Public Entities Prosecution Chief said.
