As income inequality has grown nationwide, leaving Hispanics and Blacks with seven to 10 times less the typical wealth of white families, California lawmakers are pushing toward higher education.One of those projects includes creating ScholarShare 529, a universal program to invest money into an account for every child born in the Golden State. We had just been working with California Department of Public Health to make sure that as children are being born, that information is being provided to ScholarShare 529 so that they start having these accounts set up, said Assembly Member Adrin NazarianWhile it s welcomed by many, there s still hope that more funding can help close inequity gaps. Sounds like a good idea but that s assuming that every child is starting from the same position in terms of their community and in terms of their quality of life, said Lorreen Pryor, with American Descendants of Slavery. While President Biden s American Jobs Plan includes a robust electric vehicle infrastructure component that could put 500,000 more charging stations into the ground in the U.S., the truth is that things are already moving in that direction.
For example, Electrify America (EA) announced more details of its big EV charging station investment this week. As part of the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal settlement, the automaker was forced to set up EA and to promote EV use in the U.S., including spending $800 million in California. This week, EA announced details about how it will spend the next $200 million of that. The charging station network operator has already spent or allocated $400 million in the state.
Stockton school district partners with Mobility House for electric school bus charging; savings of $500K over 5 years
Stockton Unified School District in Stockton, Calif., has partnered with The Mobility House to deploy smart charging strategy and management solutions for the district’s zero-emission fleet project, which is now operational and scheduled to transport students to schools throughout the district.
Completed in less than one year, the electric school bus fleet project is part of a series of electrification initiatives by the Stockton Unified School District to become the nation’s leading zero-emission school district. The transportation yard has been constructed for 24 chargers to accommodate future additions to the electric bus fleet and relies on The Mobility House to minimize electricity charging costs while also ensuring vehicles are readily available for assigned routes.

STOCKTON, Calif. The Stockton Unified School District considers Flora Arca Mata one of California’s first Filipino-American teachers and someone who helped pave the way for other Filipino-American teachers.
“She really helped a lot of the administrators that went on to become principals and administrators for Stockton Unified and even out in Sacramento,” says Eddie Mata, Flora Arca Mata’s son.
