Welwyn Garden City student impressed by new coding club

Published: 2:51 PM May 12, 2021    Stanborough IT teacher Mel O’Connor, pupil Trisha Ahir and Welwyn Hatfield Mayor Roger Trigg - Credit: Stanborough School Stanborough School student, Trisha Ahir took part in the Code Ninja scheme which was held at Applecroft School in Welwyn Garden City. Code Ninjas is a platform where students learn to code their own games (using JavaScript, C# and Scratch programming languages), program robots and create circuits. The scheme, which was held at the school on Sunday, May 9, allows students to build their knowledge and skills through its belt scheme. The students can achieve belts from White Belt, which are the fundamentals (beginners), to Black Belt (advanced programming). By Black Belt, students can successfully code their own app.

Centenary torch created to mark Welwyn Garden City at 100

The torch was created by former Stanborough School student Arek - far right - Credit: Stanborough School A symbolic torch to mark Welwyn Garden City s centenary, called The Welwyn Garden City Centenary Sport For All Torch, was officially handed over twice in one day on Friday, May 7. The creator of the torch Arek Ochnio, who designed and produced it while still a student at Stanborough School and completed the task while working as an apprentice at Ternex Ltd, officially handed it over to the Centenary’s Sport For All team before they, in turn, presented it to Mill Green Museum for display and safe-keeping.
