A pair of teens confessed to breaking into an elementary school and causing more than $50,000 worth of damage, according to a press release from police.

As teenagers, we ve all done something or maybe even a few things that are considered quite dumb or regrettable. Not many of us can say our night of bad decisions led to damages over $50,000 and possible jail time. Not the case in Mecosta County for two West Michigan teens.
Mecosta County Sheriff s Department told Fox 17 that in fact, two teenagers have admitted to being the suspects who broke into Stanwood Elementary on Halloween night and causing well over $50,000 worth of damage to the elementary school building.
According to Fox 17, the two suspects were a 15-year-old from Morley and a 14-year-old from Stanwood. In all, Mecosta County Sherrif s Department said that the Halloween night break-in ended up costing the school district over $57,000 to repair and clean up.

An elementary school in the Hempfield Area School District will be temporarily closed early next week after covid-19 cases were reported in the building.
Fort Allen Elementary School will close Tuesday
, Jan. 19, after three active cases were reported in the building, according to a letter from Superintendent Tammy Wolicki.
Students, who are off Monday, will attend classes remotely Tuesday.
The decision to close the school came after two other district buildings were closed this week due to covid-19 cases. Wendover Middle School was closed Monday and West Hempfield Middle School was closed Friday in order to give school leaders time to conduct contact tracing. That identifies people who need to quarantine.

Days after students in the Hempfield Area School District returned to school buildings following the holiday break, new covid-19 cases were reported.
According to a tracker posted on the district’s website, there are five active cases among students and staffers, which are identified as individuals who were in school buildings when infectious, said Superintendent Tammy Wolicki. Of those cases, three are students and two are staff. The first case was reported Tuesday.
