Active cases in Steuben County continue recent decline

Cases associated with three local schools were among 17 Steuben County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 in Wednesday s report from the Steuben County Public Health Department.
Three individuals are associated with Avoca High School, Canisteo-Greenwood High School and the Hornell Intermediate School, said the county.
Active cases continued to decline, falling to 216 down 12 from Tuesday and 98 since Friday. Steuben County s lower numbers reflect falling COVID-19 rates across the state. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that the statewide positivity of 3.54% is the lowest since Nov. 25.
With winter breaks approaching for Steuben County schools, Public Health Director Darlene Smith urged residents planning trips to adhere to New York state’s travel guidelines.

BATH The Steuben County Public Health Department is still waiting for its COVID-19 vaccine supply to catch up with the number of residents eligible to receive vaccinations, Public Health Director Darlene Smith said Monday.
Smith said Steuben County continues to advocate for a greater supply of vaccine.
“With the addition of those with comorbidities being added to the list of those eligible for the vaccine starting next Monday, the majority of Steuben County’s population will be eligible,” said Smith. “Unfortunately, the vaccine supply provided to the health department on a weekly basis can only reach .2% of the population. Based on current allocations from New York State, it will take months to vaccinate those who are currently eligible.
The investigations indicate:
One individual is associated with the Elmira Correctional Facility.
Four individuals are associated with Corning, Inc. at Sullivan Park, Erwin and CMS.
Two individuals are associated with Arkport Central and Corning-Painted Post High School. Thursday s report included individuals are associated with Alfred State College, Alfred University, GST BOCES Bush Campus.
In addition to the locations noted above, the individuals reported visiting the following locations that could pose an exposure risk within their investigation timeframes:
1/31 – McDonald’s in Painted Post
2/1 – Corelle Brands in Corning
2/1, 2/2 – Dansville Village Police Department
2/1, 2/2 – Five Star Bank in Dansville
2/2 – Cutting Crew Hair Salon in Hornell
Steuben County s 4-day average of COVID-19 cases encouraging
County notes decline in new cases, has just over 500 active cases

BATH Steuben County s rate of new COVID-19 cases continued to slow in recent days.
The Steuben County Public Health Department reported Tuesday that 109 Steuben County residents tested positive for COVID-19 since Friday s update. At times during the pandemic, the county has added over 100 cases per day.
“This four day average of cases is very encouraging,” said Public Health Director Darlene Smith. “However, many case investigations over the weekend noted individuals that continued to work or socialize while symptomatic. Please continue to be diligent in efforts to slow the spread. If feeling unwell, be mindful about getting tested and not going to social gatherings, work, or other public locations where the spread could continue.”
