The jury in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has reached a verdict, the court said on Tuesday afternoon, as tensions are running high across the United States.
The verdict on whether Chauvin is guilty of the murder of George Floyd is expected to be announced shortly in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the trial was heard, Al Jazeera reports.

Minneapolis, the United States – The jury in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has reached a verdict, the court said on Tuesday afternoon, as tensions are running high across the United States.
The verdict on whether Chauvin is guilty of the murder of George Floyd is expected to be announced between 3:30-4:00pm local time (20:30-21:00 GMT) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the trial was heard.

Chauvin is charged with second- and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death on May 25 last year, which spurred mass protests around the world.
INDIAN SHORES â For the first time since last March, the Indian Shores Town Council meeting took place completely in person at Town Hall on Feb. 9 rather than in a Zoom or hybrid meeting. Not only was the in-person setting a plus â although participants were masked and socially distanced â but also, police department promotions and the approval of the monument arch rendering contributed to the uplifting tone of the meeting.
âThings are looking up,â Mayor Patrick Soranno said as many attendees greeted one another with elbow-bumps. âItâs great to see people.â
Police Chief Rick Swann presented two officers, Shane Tindall and Jason Hicks, for promotion. âMy goal is to build from within,â said the chief.
