Homes evacuated after serious fire at gas substation Police and fire crews cordoned off the road A number of homes have been evacuated after a serious fire near Stapleford. Fire crews were called to Stapleford Road in Trowell at around 6.30pm today, Tuesday, March 16. The road is closed from Trowell Garden Centre to the Ilkeston mini roundabout. People are being asked to avoid the area while crews work at the scene. A spokesperson for Stapleford Fire Station said: We are currently dealing with a serious fire on Stapleford Road, Trowell. The road is currently closed from Trowell garden Centre to the Ilkeston road mini roundabout.
