Snowmobiler Okay After Sled Breaks Through the Ice Near Melrose
The incident happened around 2:00 p.m. Sunday along the east side of Little Birch Lake.
The Stearns County Sheriff s Office says 61-year-old
Michael Tiemann, of Grey Eagle, was riding his 2000 Artic Cat 600 snowmobile about 20 feet from the shore, when his sled broke through the ice and became partially submerged.
Authorities say Tiemann was able to get off the sled safely, at which time, the snowmobile broke completely through the ice and sank in about six feet of water.
Tiemann planned to remove the snowmobile from the lake Monday.

People riding ATVs on lakes broke through thin ice Saturday, Dec. 26, in Stearns County and also in Kandiyohi County. A similar incident was reported Friday at Games Lake in Kandiyohi.

A fire on Christmas night in Krain Township damaged a shed and a tractor that was inside it.
The Stearns County Sheriff s Office said deputies responded to the 24000 block of County Road 17 at 9:39 p.m. on Friday and found a shed on the south side of the property on fire.
Firefighters extinguished the flames but the eastern portion of the shed was heavily damaged.
The sheriff s office said a wood furnace was inside the shed and may have ignited the fire.
The 1980s John Deere tractor and other tools were also damaged in the fire.
Shed Damaged in Fire Near Freeport
FREEPORT Fire crews responded to a shed fire near Freeport Friday night.
The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the 24000 block of County Road 17 in Krain Township.
The Stearns County Sheriff s Office says they arrived to find a 30x60 foot shed, owned by Leo and
Bernadine Ettle of Freeport, on fire.
Authorities say it s believe the fire was ignited by or near the wood furnace inside the shed.
No one was hurt however the shed, a 1980 s John Deere Tractor and miscellaneous tools were damaged in the blaze.

ATV Breaks Through Thin Ice on Stearns County Lake

Cory Hanson and 44-year-old
Lori Hanson of Avon had been driving their 2017 Polaris Ranger side by side when it broke through the ice. They were both able to get out of the vehicle and make it safely out of the water to a nearby icehouse.

The ATV is submerged in what is believed to be approximately 27 feet of water. The area had recently had open water and not long ago frozen over due to waterfowl in the area. Hanson has made arrangements with a private tow service to have the ATV removed from the lake.
