Strathroy Dairies is to impose a price penalty on peak-season new milk from 2022 onwards.
In a communication to its 150 milk suppliers in the Republic of Ireland, the Omagh-based family-owned business has stated that processing limitations have forced its hand.
“We are proposing a two-tier milk price for the four peak months March to June,” the company wrote.
Suppliers will be able to choose months from each year to give the highest total delivered volume
Any milk above an “agreed volume” “will receive whatever we can get from the market”.
The agreed volume will be based on the supply for each month from either 2020 or 2021.

THE Government is coming under pressure to intervene in the dispute between Glanbia and An Taisce over the planned €140m cheese plant at Belview.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin was forced to comment in the Dáil last week on the matter, when questioned by TDs.
He said people had the right to object to significant projects, but he cautioned that the judicial review process should not be used as a mechanism to delay vital infrastructure.
“There is an independent planning process. It is rigorous and it should be respected.
“There is a growing sense that the judicial review is becoming a new mechanism to frustrate and delay projects, hoping that they may not develop. That is creating challenges on the investment side and in terms of the creation of jobs. That has to be acknowledged.”
Glanbia farmers are seeking to become dual suppliers to other dairies as they battle to circumvent the impact of peak milk controls which were recently introduced by the Kilkenny-based co-op.
