JavFest back in the Poconos

Athletes come from all over the country to compete and learn from one another. Author: Amanda Eustice (WNEP) Updated: 7:37 PM EDT July 16, 2021 EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. They call it PR City because, at American JavFest on the campus of East Stroudsburg High School South, dozens of competitive javelin athletes take to the runway to try to beat their own records. But PR doesn t only stand for personal record; it also has to do with public relations, spreading the word about all the sport has to offer. It s an appreciation of everything javelin. Usually, we have a clinic alongside this where kids get to learn a little bit from some high-level coaches, but this year because of COVID, we didn t know where we were going to be at. We had limited time to plan so, it s just about the competition, said Barry Krammes, the meet director for JavFest.

Stroudsburg reflects on year after killing of George Floyd

The vigil opened with a prayer. Lord, we thank you for bringing us to a place of unity, said Bishop Kenneth Pearman. A crowd of about 60 people stood around him as the sun set over Courthouse Square. To recover from the things that seem to be stolen. The prayer ended, and a megaphone was handed off between community members and leaders. They stepped forward one by one to testify against police brutality and demand reform. A few wore shirts that read Black Lives Matter, and I can t breathe. All asked for the same thing: Unity. Tuesday s vigil marked one year since the murder of George Floyd at the hands of a white former Minneapolis police officer. His death was incendiary, caught on camera and shared a hundredfold, igniting months of demonstrations and calls for reform across the nation.
