225oo block Highway 99: A shoplifting suspect was contacted by empoyees prior to exiting. Merchandise was recovered but thrown at staff. Suspect was removed.
600 block 5th Avenue South: An unlocked vehicle was prowled and miscellaneous items stolen.
8200 block 218th Street Southwest: A resident confronted a male subject looking through mailboxes. The male was later located by police and arrested for attempted mail theft.
10000 block Edmonds Way: Police received a report of a domestic violence court order violation that occurred through social media at the victim’s work place.

The Mountlake Terrace City Council kicked off 2020 by swearing in four councilmembers during the council’s Jan. 2 work session. The council also voted to re-elect Councilmember Kyoko Matsumoto Wright as mayor and Councilmember Doug McCardle as mayor pro tem.

To accommodate future population growth and rising student enrollment, the Edmonds School District proposed a $600 million construction bond measure to develop a new elementary and middle school, as well as a new building to house Scriber Lake High School. On Jan. 3, Edmonds School District Superintendent Kris McDuffy briefed the Mountlake Terrace City Council on the proposed measure.

A hiker who died near Lake Serene Monday was identified as a 49-year-old Mountlake Terrace man.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that search and rescue teams on Monday afternoon recovered the body of the man, who died while hiking near Bridal Trail Falls. The victim was hiking with a family member around 2 p.m. Monday when he fell. Other hikers nearby began performing CPR while search and rescue teams responded to the area.
The victim was on the Lake Serene Trail approximately 1.5 miles from the Bridal Veil Falls Trail. Fire and aid ground teams arrived first on scene and took over lifesaving efforts but were unable to revive the victim. At this time, it is unknown if the death is related to a medical incident, the sheriff’s office said.
