Family members of a Virginia man who was shot multiple times by a sheriffâs deputy last week spoke publicly on Monday alongside their lawyer, who called for accountability within the department.
The family said Monday that 34-year-old Isaiah Brownâs condition remains âtouch and goâ after he was shot during an incident with the Spotsylvania County Sheriffâs Department on Wednesday morning.
âIâm numb. I think weâre all kind of numb,â said Yolanda Brown, Isaiahâs sister. âItâs just a lot.â
An unarmed black man who was shot last week by a Virginia cop underwent multiple surgeries to remove two bullets, but there are eight bullets or bullet fragments still inside him, his lawyer said.
Isaiah Brown, 32, is still in very critical condition and is on a ventilator, according to the family s lawyer David Haynes. His condition is touch and go, Haynes said Monday outside the Spotsylvania County Courthouse, which is about six miles from where Brown was shot last Wednesday.
Brown was walking outside his home while talking on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when a Spotsylvania County deputy seemingly mistook Brown s cordless phone for a gun, according to the lawyer.

A Virginia sheriff s deputy shot a Black man last Wednesday about an hour after the same deputy gave the man a ride home, reports said.
Isaiah Brown, 32, was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when the deputy responded to his house following reports of a domestic incident, according to a police statement.
Body camera video appears to show the deputy yelling to Brown to show his hands and drop the gun.
The officer, who was not identified, seems to say over his radio, He’s got a gun to his head.

A police shooting in Northern Virginia, where a Black man was shot 10 times, is now the focus of a state police investigation. Isiah Brown, 32, is in critical condition after he was shot while making a 911 call in the middle of the night.
A sheriff s deputy can be heard saying drop the gun on the body camera footage, but an attorney for Brown and his family said the sheriff s deputy who fired the shots mistook a cordless house phone for a gun. His family also said the same deputy had assisted Brown a short time before the shooting.
