So far, Cox and Mercy Springfield have each vaccinated around 14,000 people, and Cox will give shots to 5700 more people both the public and Cox employees in the next few days. Jordan Valley has given out around 9600 vaccines locally. Local health leaders are hopeful vaccine production will ramp up soon.
Cox and Mercy are included in hospitals that the state is getting extra vaccines to this month to try to get as many people vaccinated as possible. When Mercy gets an expected 5700 doses next week, it will share 1200 of those with Mercy Joplin, 1200 with Freeman Hospital in Joplin and 500 with CMH in Bolivar.
Fourteen more Greene County residents have died of COVID-19. They include a man and two women in their 70s, six men and two women in their 80s and two men and a woman in their 90s. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says the deaths were reported to us between January 27 and February 2.
As of Thursday morning, the health department was reporting a total of 395 deaths from COVID-19. There were 4,898 active cases. Ninety-nine people were hospitalized in Springfield with the illness, and 32 were in critical care.
The county had seen a 13 percent decrease in cases in the last week.

The State of Missouri is planning to hold mass COVID-19 vaccination events this week in partnership with the Missouri National Guard, the state health department and local health care systems. One of the sites is the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds this Friday.
But the Springfield-Greene County Health Department wants the public to know that it is an appointment only event. And those who are eligible to get a shot and have signed up for one through area healthcare partners will be contacted if they can be vaccinated Friday. Public health officials say if you’re not contacted, be patient because vaccine demand continues to outpace supply right now.

A survey is underway in southwest Missouri to determine how people feel about getting a COVID-19 vaccine. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is conducting the survey in the 18 counties that comprise Missouri’s Region D. Those include Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon and Webster Counties.
According to the health department, the survey measures how likely someone is to receive a vaccine, general attitudes about COVID-19 and where people commonly go for information about their health including vaccines. You can take the survey at surveymonkey.com/r/417COVIDvaccinesurvey.
