We are super early in the planning process, Brabo said.
Unlike a magnet program, which admits applicants based on a lottery system, a choice program is located in a traditional school building. It is designed to serve students who live in the attendance area as well as transfer students. We are envisioning this to be a whole-school choice program so there are elements of STEAM that would be taught in all content, she said.
Brabo said as the district develops and finalizes a plan, it will explore partnerships in the community to support the STEAM approach.
As part of the 2019 bond issue, voters approved $41.5 million to build a new Jarrett on the former campus of Portland Elementary, which has been demolished. It is designed to serve up to 725 students in grades 6-8.
Pokin Around: Sorry voters, Missouri lawmakers sidestep Medicaid expansion Steve Pokin, Springfield News-Leader
Olé!
Fooled you!
As a result, more than 200,000 low-income Missourians may or may not receive government-funded health insurance when they sign up for benefits July 1.
Many of us thought this matter was decided at the polls in August 2020, when voters statewide amended the state constitution in order to expand Medicaid.
Instead, it will be decided in the courts.
I would think that those doing a brazen legal dodge might want to soften their language.
Not so for State Sen. Eric Burlison, a Republican who represents District 20, which covers Christian County and part of Greene County.
Marty Marsh, who oversaw a major expansion of extracurricular offerings for Springfield middle school students, has been hired as assistant executive director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association, or MSHSAA.
Marsh, assistant director of athletics and student activities in Springfield, will retire from the district this summer. He will start the new job July 1. It has certainly been an honor to serve the students of Springfield Public Schools for 26 years. It s truly a highlight of my life, Marsh recently told the school board. As I ve said many times, I leave this job with mixed emotions.
Marsh was recognized at the board meeting Tuesday because he was recently named the Missouri Middle School Athletic Director of the Year by the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
