After A 22-Month Tenure, Springfield City Clerk Tasheena Davis Resigns

There is a key job open in City Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts. Springfield City Clerk Tasheena Davis has resigned, effective June 1st, 2021 after just 22 months in the job.  In a statement released by the office of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Davis said she will return to her previous job as an associate solicitor in the city’s Law Department.   She was quoted in the statement as saying “practicing law is a passion of mine and I am appreciative of getting back to my passion.” Sarno said he is nominating Springfield Election Commissioner Gladys Oyola-Lopez to the clerk vacancy. But the authority to hire the City Clerk rests with the City Council.  Council President Marcus Williams said candidates for the job will be solicited.  Applicants will be vetted by a three-person ad-hoc committee of Councilors that will recommend finalists for the full Council to publicly interview.

Springfield Sees Sharp Drop In New COVID-19 Cases, But Remains At High Risk For Infection

4:13    As virus activity continues to decline in Massachusetts and more COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, Springfield lags behind.      Springfield is one of just 13 municipalities in Massachusetts that remain at high risk for coronavirus infection.  Along with Chicopee these are the only two places in western Massachusetts that show up as red on the state health department’s map, which is updated weekly and is based on COVID-19 incidence and test positivity rates.      There are encouraging signs however in the latest data, said the city’s Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris.  Springfield recorded 265 confirmed COVID-19 cases for the week of May 2nd – down by 160 from the week before.  The city has seen new case totals decline for three straight weeks.

The event is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 28. The chamber asks people to visit www.springfieldregionalchamber.com to register. Tickets cost $39.95 for Springfield Regional Chamber members and $49.95 for general admission. Enterprise-level tickets, with six access passes, are available for $179 for members and $225 for nonmembers. Outlook generally brings together more than 500 business leaders to network and hear from expert speakers on local, state and federal issues. This year’s online event already has about 250 registrants, said Nancy Creed, president of the Springfield Regional Chamber.
