Student launches stuffed cookie company to help pay for nursing school

GRAND RAPIDS, MI Pedro Camargo has always loved to bake.
Now, the 22-year-old Grand Rapids Community College student is turning his passion into a business. He launched STUFT Cookie Company in April to help support himself financially as he prepares to start GRCC’s nursing program in August.
“I realized I wanted to bake, and I wanted to find another opportunity for income because opportunities were pretty limited back during the pandemic,” Camargo said.

Spectrum Health Butterworth, Blodgett and Zeeland Community Hospitals were named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list published by Fortune.
This is the eighth time Spectrum Health Butterworth and Blodgett Hospitals have been recognized with this honor since 2010. They were named among the top-performing hospitals in the major teaching peer group.
This also is the sixth consecutive award for Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital, which was named in the small community peer group.

Woman thrown from vehicle after it goes airborne in crash

The 35-year-old Isabella County woman was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The crash was reported at 2:41 a.m. on Costabella Road near Cherry Street in Mecosta County’s Millbrook Township.
Sheriff’s deputies said it appears that the woman was driving north on Costabella when her vehicle crossed the center line, went off the left side of the road and hit an embankment. The vehicle was airborne as it crossed Cherry and crashed into trees, police said.
One seriously injured after explosions and fire at Cedar Springs mobile home

CEDAR SPRINGS, MI A 50-year-old Cedar Springs area man was severely injured after explosions and a fire erupted at a mobile home.
Kent County sheriff’s deputies said they think the explosions were related to the possible rupture of several butane tanks in a car port attached to the home.
Firefighters responded about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 to the White Creek Country Estates, near White Creek Avenue NE and Egner Street, for the fire on Hemlock Street. The area is about three miles north of Cedar Springs.

The Leapfrog Group released its spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, and Michigan moved up in the rankings.
Michigan ranked 10th in the country for highest percentage of A-grade hospitals, improving from last fall’s ranking of 14th.
The independent grading system assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to general acute-care hospitals in the U.S. based on their ability to protect patients from avoidable errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
Seventy-nine hospitals were graded in Michigan for the spring 2021 term. Michigan scored a record number of A-ranked hospitals with 35 facilities earning the top mark. Twenty-seven hospitals earned a B, 16 earned a C and one earned a D. There were no F-ranked hospitals.
