Spectrum Health Butterworth, Blodgett and Zeeland Community Hospitals were named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals list published by Fortune.
This is the eighth time Spectrum Health Butterworth and Blodgett Hospitals have been recognized with this honor since 2010. They were named among the top-performing hospitals in the major teaching peer group.
This also is the sixth consecutive award for Spectrum Health Zeeland Community Hospital, which was named in the small community peer group.

More Michigan Kids Hospitalized With Covid
The state of Michigan is breaking a record that nobody wants broken, children hospitalized with the Coronavirus are at the highest numbers seen during the pandemic. Even higher than during the fall surge.
The Michigan Hospital Association confirmed to Fox 2 in Detroit that pediatric patient hospitalizations grew by 311% from Feb. 19 to April 20, increasing from 17-70 inpatients.
Speaking at a press briefing earlier this week, Spectrum Health West Michigan President Darryl Elmouchi noted that the average age of those hospitalized with Covid-19 has dropped in the health system:

The state confirmed another 5,584 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic above 800,000. More than 17,000 people in Michigan have now passed away due to COVID-19.
That update comes as some hospital leaders in West Michigan expressed hope that the current surge may be reaching its peak. Nearly 4,000 people are currently hospitalized because of COVID-19, and 530 are on ventilators, according to the state.
“We are hopeful that we have reached a peak this past weekend,” says Tina Freese Decker, CEO of Spectrum Health, in an update with media on Wednesday.

Michigan s coronavirus case rate has begun to fall, dropping 12.5% over the last week, suggesting the state s third surge the worst in the U.S. may be waning.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday that the seven-day average of new cases in Michigan fell from 551.8 per 100,000 people on April 14 to 483 per 100,000 Wednesday. It s pretty early in the dip to say it s going to be sustained, said Ryan Malosh, an infectious disease epidemiologist at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, but it does look like we have peaked.
