An armed robbery confrontation at the Briarwood Apartment complex on Union Avenue in Benton Township shortly before midnight Wednesday night has left one man dead and another injured, with Benton Township Police Detectives asking the public for help in identifying those responsible for the attack. Detective Lt. Michael DenDooven with the Benton Township Police says that at 11:38pm Wednesday night his department was dispatched to the Briarwood complex regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, Police found 18 year old James Parker-Hersey of Benton Harbor suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hip. Medic 1 arrived on the scene at 1885 Union Avenue and began treating him before taking him to Spectrum Health Lakeland where he was admitted into surgery. DenDooven says that 20-year old Miquan Davis of Benton Township was a passenger in a vehicle at the scene who had been shot in the chest, and subsequently taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland by the driver of that vehicle. BENTON HARBOR, Mich. â Deputy Brandon Crosby and K9 Blek (pronounced âblueâ) from the Berrien County Sheriffâs Office received an Exceptional Service Award from the North American Police Work Dog Association at its National Workshop in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

The award was a result of their actions during an incident on March 25, 2020, involving a suspect wanted out of Portage, according to a news release Wednesday.
The 29-year-old suspect was believed to be armed and dangerous while traveling with his 1-year-old daughter in a vehicle.
