The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety has released the names of the suspects in a Wednesday shooting on Brunson. Chief Dan McGinnis says officers heard gunshots in the area of Brunson and Dr. Daniel Cook around 9:30 a.m. and found 28-year-old Leroy Dontrell Johnson had been grazed in the face with a bullet. He was taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland and is recovering. Police surrounded a home at 32 Brunson and arrested 33-year-old James Lee Micken Junior and 27-year-old Verdell Washington Junior. They’re charged with armed robbery, assault with intent to murder, possession of meth, and possession of cocaine. Inside the home, police say they found both guns and drugs. Assisting at the scene were Michigan State Police and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.
Spectrum Health Lakeland revises visitor guidelines as COVID-19 cases rise By: Maura Johnson
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Spectrum Health Lakeland is revising their visitor guidelines in response to the increase in community positivity rate of COVID-19.
Effective immediately, revised guidelines will allow one adult visitor from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the length of a patient’s stay on all inpatient units.
Two visitors are allowed for labor and delivery, pediatric patients, and end-of-life care.
COVID-19 patients are limited to virtual visits.
Patients with cognitive impairments or in need of physical assistance can have one adult accompany them to physician offices, lab, radiology, and other outpatient appointments.

The eligibility for COVID-19 vaccines in Michigan expanded to anyone age 16 and older on Monday. The Berrien County Health Department of Spectrum Health Lakeland have jointly released the following:
The Berrien County Health Department and Spectrum Health Lakeland are pleased to move forward with expanded eligibility for COVID-19 vaccination for all residents ages 16 and up beginning today, Monday, April 5. Although eligibility has expanded, Berrien County vaccination partners will continue to prioritize residents based on highest risk, including older residents, those with underlying medical conditions, and frontline/essential workers.
Allocations of the COVID-19 vaccine continue to increase each week throughout the state, including in Berrien County. Local providers are receiving weekly shipments of Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccines, with only the Pfizer vaccine being administered to those ages 16 and 17 with parental consent.
