The Lincoln Township Police Department is investigating an assault reported at Grand Mere State Park on Thursday morning. It says a 28-year-old woman reports she was attacked on the nature paths shortly after 8:30 a.m. She told officers she had been sitting with her dog about a quarter mile from the parking lot when a man came up from behind and grabbed her, pushing her back onto the ground. The suspect then began kicking and punching her in the torso and face. The woman fought back and her dog bit the suspect. The attack lasted about two or three minutes and then the victim was able to run. The suspect is described as a husky white male, about five foot ten or five foot eleven with dark hair. A search of the park done by police following the assault report did not turn up the suspect. The victim was taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland to be treated for abrasions and bruises. Anyone with information on the assault is asked to contact police.
