SRHD Health Board denies restaurants request to extend health permit

KXLY February 25, 2021 6:59 PM Elenee Dao SPOKANE, Wash. For some local restaurants, every dollar counts. That includes money paid each year for health permits through the county. “Nobody’s happy about what’s taken place since March,” said Mark Starr, the owner of David’s Pizza. Restaurant owners are feeling a little more stressed than others. In the last 11 months, they’ve had to close down and reopen. It was an endless cycle. Now that they’re open with some limitations, it’s still not enough. “Actually, utilities went up because if you might recall, for about five weeks, we opened and we had to have doors and windows open,” Starr said.

Uptick in COVID cases reported at Spokane County Jail

KXLY February 24, 2021 3:09 PM Erin Robinson SPOKANE CO, Wash. An uptick in COVID-19 cases has been reported among inmates at the Spokane County Jail. In a release Wednesday, county communications manager Jared Webley said there were 12 confirmed cases at the downtown facility, but no identified cases at the Geiger Facility. There are currently 784 inmates in custody between the two facilities. As of this writing, there were no confirmed positive cases among jail staff. Webley said the Spokane County Detention Services team is working with the Spokane Regional Health District to address and contain current cases. COPYRIGHT 2021 BY KXLY. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. A Dozen Inmates Test Positive For Covid At Spokane County Jail

Spokane County has a new coronavirus outbreak at the downtown jail. The county says a dozen inmates at the downtown facility have tested positive. The jail division has dedicated two floors to quarantine inmates and keep them away from the rest of the jail population for two weeks. There are no confirmed cases among jail staff. And, the county says, no confirmed cases among inmates at the Geiger Corrections Center on the West Plains. That was the site of a larger outbreak in December, when several dozen people tested positive, though none were hospitalized.   Spokane County’s outbreaks behind bars have been mild compared to past outbreaks at other correctional facilities, including Airway Heights. One reason is that the county released a few hundred inmates early in the pandemic. But that population has increased from the 500 range to 784 as of Wednesday.
