Pelosi, the second highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government, also will be awarded an honorary degree by Smith College President Kathleen McCartney, which she was due to receive at the college’s 2020 commencement ceremony. As House speaker, she is third in line to the presidency, behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Pelosi’s talk will take place on Sept. 8 in John M. On Wednesday morning, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield released an expanded list of former employees who had been “credibly accused” of sexually abusing minors. The list included the name of Robert Ellis Hosmer Jr., a Smith lecturer from 1989 until 2016 who previously worked at Holyoke Catholic High School from 1968 to 1979.

The news, which he delivered to the City Council, came on the same day Smith College pledged $200,000 toward the creation of the hub, which would support residents who face chronic and acute stress, such as those who are homeless, and act as an emergency center if there is a disaster.

Smith College appoints first-ever CIO Lisa Howie Lisa Howie was named chief investment officer at Smith College, a spokeswoman for the Northampton, Mass.-based institution confirmed in an email. The position is new. Effective June 28, Ms. Howie will oversee the college s $2 billion endowment. She will report to Smith College President Kathleen McCartney and the board of trustee s investment committee. Ms. Howie is a director at Yale University s investments office, which manages the New Haven, Conn.-based university s $31.2 billion endowment. A Yale spokeswoman could not be immediately reached for additional information. Smith College announced in December that it had decided to manage its investments in-house after using outsourced CIO Investure LLC since 2004. Executive recruiting firm David Barrett Partners assisted in the search.
