Chile surpasses 35,000 deaths from COVID-19

SANTIAGO, July 25 (Xinhua) Chile has surpassed 35,000 deaths from COVID-19, Health Minister Enrique Paris reported on Sunday. Paris said that in the last 24 hours, the country had reported 68 deaths, bringing the death toll to 35,026, while another 1,446 new cases were registered, bringing the total caseload to 1,609,177. Chile has seen a consistent decline in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of June, and to date, it is reporting fewer than 2,000 infections per day on average as the vaccination program continues to advance in the country, with 80 percent of the target population fully vaccinated in several regions.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Health, the official also said that in the last 24 hours, there were 30 more deaths, for a total of 34,569, while 13 of the country s 16 regions had a positivity rate lower or equal to 4 percent. Since June, Chile has seen a constant drop in the number of COVID-19 cases, reporting less than 2,000 per day on average.

SANTIAGO, July 19 (Xinhua) Chile registered on Monday 1,015 new COVID-19 infections and 25 more deaths in the last day, for a total of 1,600,883 cases and 34,539 deaths. According to the Ministry of Health, the number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants has dropped from 327 in April to 81 in July, a decrease of 75 percent. Confirmed deaths due to the disease have fallen by 18 percent in the last seven days and by 23 percent in 14 days. In addition, hospital occupancy has fallen to 87 percent, the lowest figure since December 2020, as critical admissions have decreased by 65 percent. Despite these advances, Health Minister Enrique Paris said at a press conference on Monday that Chile has not overcome the pandemic nor defeated the virus .
