Accordingly, Government and Private Offices will have to operate with minimum number of staff required, while work from home is also available. Day Care Centers, Pre-Schools, Schools, High Education Institutions, Universities, Tuition classes will remain closed until further notice. Gymnasiums and Indoor Sports Halls can function with up to 25% of the capacity of the premises adhering to the COVID-19 preventive guidelines.

Three ICUs at KDU Hospital reserved for critical COVID patients

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry decided to reserve three ICUs at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University Hospital to provide treatment for critical COVID-19 patients. The Health Ministry said the Intensive Care Units of the KDU contained 21 ICU beds and 12 High Dependency Beds. During a visit to the KDU Hospital on Thursday (29), Sri Lanka’s Health Minister Pavithra Vanniarachchi instructed to immediately assign 30 doctors, 80 nurses, and 25 junior staffers to the ICU Units. The Health Ministry said a decision was also made to expand the treatment services at Hospitals and Treatment Centers across the island and to also improve the number of hospital beds.

2021-04-22 13:35:56 GMT2021-04-22 21:35:56(Beijing Time) Xinhua English COLOMBO, April 22 (Xinhua) Sri Lanka s Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has said the government will not suspend the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine but authorities have been studying to identify cases suffering from adverse side effects after receiving the vaccine. Wanniarachchi said the government has appointed a committee of medical experts to identify cases with long term side effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is headed by Health Ministry s Chief Epidemiologist Sudath Samaraweera, according to local media reports on Thursday. The minister said a 24-hour hotline was set up to inform people of adverse effects of the vaccine, adding that a special unit was established in the National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo for this purpose.
