Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti has announced he will no longer seek re-election to his seat in the state Assembly. Last month, Chiaravalloti had decided to run for re-election despite losing the backing of Bayonne Mayor James Davis and the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).
“I am in public service because I love my community and want to work to improve Bayonne, Jersey City, Hudson County and New Jersey,” Chiaravalloti said. “Unfortunately, I do not have the support of the Hudson County Democratic Organization to run for re-election. I was informed by Chairwoman DeGise that because of an archaic deal made decades ago, she feels obligated to support Mayor James Davis’s pick for the Assembly.”

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ - Despite legal challenges and protests from progressives, the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) announced its endorsements for the June 2021 primary. Gov. Phil Murphy, with a recent poll statewide showing his approval rating at more than 58 percent of likely voters, will top the ticket with his running mate, Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver.
“Hudson County is home to some of the most diverse communities in the nation and as an organization, we are committed to promoting leadership that is reflective of the people they are elected to serve,” said HCDO Chairwoman Amy DeGise. “From Governor Murphy, who has been a tireless advocate of Hudson County’s working- and middle-class families, to our State Senate, Assembly and county candidates, I’m confident this slate will stand by our Democratic values, continue to fight for our County and do what is best for all of our residents.”

“As the largest small business association within Hudson County and over 300 businesses owners/members within Jersey City, HACA’s executive board has voted to participate actively in the political elections in Jersey City and Hudson County in order to advocate on issues that are effecting the local small business market,” HACA President Luis Jimenez said in a statement.
“Through DPA [Democratic Political Alliance] we plan on endorsing Elvin Dominici as he runs for councilman-at-large in the upcoming November 2, 2021 Municipal Election. We believe in his unquestionable track record in helping our community and small businesses.”
