Prosecutor’s office probing shots fired by Jersey City police

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into a shooting incident by Jersey City police early Thursday morning.
The shooting incident occurred in the area of Bergen and Oxford avenues at 1:10 a.m., the prosecutor’s office said Thursday. It was noted that no one was struck by the gunfire in the incident that was related to a traffic stop.
It is standard procedure for the prosecutor’s office’s Shooting Response Team to investigate all police-involved shooting incidents. The state Attorney General’s Office also has been notified of the incident and investigation.

Today at approximately 1:10 a.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department were attempting to make a motor vehicle stop in the area of Bergen and Oxford Avenues, Suarez said in a statement.
During the course of the stop, one of the officers discharged his weapon striking a vehicle.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the
incident, including the motor vehicle stop and the officer’s discharge of his service weapon.
As is standard protocol, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has been notified of the incident and investigation.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Shooting Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday morning, April 29, at the intersection of Bergen and Oxford Avenues in Jersey City.
According to the HCPO, no one was struck or injured during the incident which occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. when Jersey City police officers attempted to make a motor vehicle stop in the area of Bergen and Oxford Avenues.

A Bayonne man accused of fatally stabbing a man has evaded authorities for nearly two months, and now the public’s help is being sought.
Authorities say Elvis Santana, 30, stabbed 29-year-old Mathew Mortimer to death in the vestibule of a Bayonne apartment building on Avenue C near 54th Street on March 2.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office believes Santana is still in the metro New Jersey/New York area.
