Prosecutor: West New York man charged with sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Jose Del Pilar, 38, of
West New York, on charges he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl who was known to him.
Del Pilar was arrested on Wednesday, January 20th, just after 5 p.m., at the West New York Police Headquarters located at 428 60th Street.
He is charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal sexual contact.
On January 20th, the West New York Police Department contacted the Hudson County Special Victims Unit about an alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl by an adult male family friend, later identified as Del Pilar.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. last night, corrections officers responded to the cell of Jason Sworn, 50, after his cellmate notified them that Sworn had fallen out of bed and was complaining of chest pains, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
The responding corrections officers attended to Sworn and attempted to perform CPR and used the defibrillator. The nurses at the facility, as well as the EMTs from NewarkBeth Israel Medical Center, also responded.
Sworn was pronounced dead at 11:37 p.m. and the in-custody death is being investigated by the HCPO. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner.
The death of a 50-year-old inmate at the Hudson County Correctional Center is under investigation.

A Jersey City pastor was sentenced to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison for the sexual assault of two different girls he taught at the church he worked at, authorities said.
Josue Rodriguez, 62, was a pastor and taught religion to children at Temple Refugio, a church at 322 3rd St. in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
Rodriguez taught both victims at the church, one of whom was between ages 6 and 9, and the other between 8 and 15, the prosecutor said.
One of the victim s moms reported the alleged crime that happened at the church to Jersey City police on April 30, according to Suarez.

Charges have been upgraded for a 33-year-old West New York man arrested in connection with his 62-year-old mother s death, authorities said Sunday.
Emmanuel Gonzalez was initially charged with aggravated assault after his mom, Irma L. Pons, was found unresponsive in a bedroom and pronounced dead Thursday afternoon, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
Members of the West New York Police Department responded to 439 66th St., unit 2 on reports of an unresponsive woman around 1:30 p.m. Jan. 14, Suarez said. Pons was pronounced dead 15 minutes later, the prosecutor said.
The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma and the manner of death to be homicide, Suarez said.
