On Monday, a number of Sullivan County residents called 911 to report a potential fire. Though residents couldn t pinpoint any blaze they noticed a lot of smoke in the air We ve been getting a number of calls from residents concerned with the smoke they re seeing in the air around Sullivan County today, Sullivan County 911 wrote on Facebook.
Officials confirmed residents really did see smoke, but the smoke wasn t coming from anywhere in Sullivan County. The smoke actually traveled from Canada into Sullivan County. They re right - it s not summer haze, it s actually smoke. BUT. it s not locally generated. The smoke is from forest fires raging in Canada, and the weather pattern has brought it our way, Sullivan County 911 added.

On Saturday, July 17 around 8:30 p.m., New York State Police from the Montgomery barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Route 32 in the town of Cornwall. The preliminary investigation revealed that 38-year-old Helen Rivera of the City of Newburgh was driving south in a 2009 Toyota Corolla when she crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2010 Dodge Journey.
The Journey was being operated by 32-year-old Catherine Swartz of Highland Mills. The Dodge Journey was occupied by nine individuals.
Swartz and two passengers were transported to Westchester Medical Center. The remaining passengers were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with minor injuries, police say.

On Monday, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that courts in Westchester County have granted her permission to dismiss all marijuana cases involving felony and misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession or sale.
“Dismissing all marijuana cases, including underlying bench warrants, has been a priority of mine, and the legislature’s repeal of Article 221 was long overdue. The decriminalization of marijuana possession is critical given the discriminatory way marijuana laws have been used to incarcerate people of color.” Rocah said. “While Black and white Americans used marijuana at similar rates, people of color are much more likely to be arrested than white Americans for marijuana possession. Our office is committed to reducing this disparity and the dismissal of these cases is an important step.”

On Friday, New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie spoke with reporters about the impeached investigation into Cuomo. Right now the Assembly Judiciary Committee is doing an impeachment inquiry, so I’m going to wait for the results of that inquiry, Heastie said, according to CBS.
Allegations started in December 2020 when Lindsey Boylan accused Cuomo of harassing her for years. Boylan served as an executive vice president of Empire State Development and later as a special adviser to Cuomo for economic development from March 2015 to Oct 2018.
At least seven more women later accused Cuomo of inappropriate behavior or sexual harassment.
