Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
While the state reviews the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new masking guidance, all of California’s COVID-19 safety measures, including masking, remain in effect.
The CDC yesterday released interim recommendations, stating that fully vaccinated individuals do not have to wear facial coverings in most settings. However, the CDC outlines several exceptions, such as state law, that supersede its guidance.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced late last night that the state “is reviewing the new CDC guidance on masking requirements.” CDPH and CalOSHA continue to require masks be worn in all indoor public places and crowded outdoor settings. Updates to masking guidance will be shared as they become available.
Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:
Humboldt County’s COVID-19 case rate is on an upward trend, and local health officials urge all community residents to get tested if they are experiencing symptoms and note that testing options have expanded to additional locations across the North Coast.
Humboldt County Public Health Director Michele Stephens said that even with progress in the county’s vaccination efforts, there are still a large number of residents who are not vaccinated and have no immunity at all against this virus.
“Testing is a crucial component of containing positive cases before they have a chance to spread so we can move past this pandemic,” Stephens said. “Here in Humboldt, we are fortunate to have lots of convenient and free testing options available to residents. Getting tested helps keep all of us safer, particularly those most vulnerable to severe disease.”

More than 2,300 doses of COVID-19 were flown into Humboldt from Fresno County after Public Health identified a shortage of vaccine for this week’s clinics.
This week’s allocation of COVID-19 vaccine failed to arrive in Humboldt County due to a shipping error. Humboldt County Public Health worked with the state to find extra doses and found two trays or 2,340 doses of Pfizer vaccine at a medical office in Fresno County. When transporting those doses presented an additional challenge, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims responded immediately, tasking her Sheriff’s Air Support Unit with delivery. Following a plane ride, all doses safely ar
