An adaptation of Harinder Sikka s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat , Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal-starrer Raazi that released three years ago today, is a true account of an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent. In the film, Sehmat, on her father s request, was married into a family of military officials in Pakistan to relay information to India, prior to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Alia breathed life into the protagonist whose character undergoes an entire arc from being an innocent girl who knew nothing about spying to becoming the eyes and ears for India at a strategically crucial point.
