(Credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: Thousands of supporters gathered in Muzaffarnagar following a call for mahapanchayat in support of the Bharatiya Kisan Union-led protest against the Centre s new farm laws. The call for mahapanchayat came a day after BKU leader Rakesh Tikait broke down at Ghazipur protest site and tension spiralled amid fears that the farmers who had been camping there for two months would be forcibly removed by the local administration. Several leaders of the opposition parties, including RJD in Bihar and SP in UP, came out in support of the protesting farmers.

Share Updated: Jan 29, 2021, 06:49 PM IST The Haryana government has suspended mobile internet services in 17 districts till January 30 in view of the Farmers protest. Mobile internet services will be stopped in 14 districts Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Rewari and Sirsa. Internet services were already suspended in Palwal, Sonipat and Jhajjar, and has now been extended. The Haryana government s decision comes at a time when people from  Haryana have started progressing towards Delhi’s borders, especially Ghazipur, Tikri and Singhu, to show their support to the farmers protesting against the Centre’s 3 new agricultural laws.

The routes will cover around 100 kilometres of the national capital. Farmers have said around 2 lakh tractors are likely to partake in the parade. Though protesting farmer unions have claimed that the tractor rally will enter the national capital only after the official Republic Day parade concludes, farmers have tried to break through the police barricade at Delhi-Haryana s Tikri border and Singhu border.
