(WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Zoo had a busy weekend after unveiling its expanded Africa exhibit that features two much-anticipated giraffes. More than 5,500 guests visited the zoo on Saturday and Sunday, according to Lisa Conn of the Hattiesburg Convention Commission, which oversees the operation of the zoo. The zoo set capacity limits of 3,000 each day. (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Pocket Museum held a “Cinco De Milo” event for Cinco De Mayo on Wednesday. “Coronavirus had us in the house for so long, it’s just nice to come out and do something for once,” said Isaiah Jagers, who attended the festival. The name “Milo” comes from the curator of the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum. For the event, a ribbon-cutting was held to debut its new feature called the Pocket Theater, which is a way for people to interact more with the museum.

(WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Zoo has announced the date it will open a major new exhibit that will have some very tall tenants. On May 15, the zoo will host the grand opening and ribbon-cutting for an expanded Africa exhibit, which will feature two giraffes, as well as several hyenas and colobus monkeys. It’s a $3.6 million addition, which increases the size of the exhibit area by 25 percent.
