Daughters sue nursing home for mother s death

NEW CUMBERLAND The daughters of a woman who died during her residency at Stone Pear Pavillion claim their mother s death was avoidable. Fox Nursing Home, Foxcrest, Fox & Fox, James Fox and unknown and unidentified individuals and entities were all named as defendants in the suit. Vonda Kay Gallop and Debbie A. Humme claim their mother, Osa Lucas, was admitted to the nursing home on June 25 and stayed until the following day, according to a complaint filed in Hancock Circuit Court. Lucas died on July 2 as a result of injuries she allegedly sustained at the nursing home. The defendants failed to provide a safe environment, failed to prevent falls and caused Lucas to sustain a fall at the nurse s station, striking her head, which resulted in a large subdural hematoma with a midline shift and, ultimately, Lucas death, according to the suit.

NEW CUMBERLAND A woman says Montana Sky LLC and unknown and unnamed employees of the company for injuries she sustained when she fell on their property. Barbara Spinella was on a sidewalk in Weirton on March 8, 2019, when she fell and was injured, according to a complaint filed in Hancock Circuit Court. Spinella claims the defendants allowed the sidewalk to be in a hazardous condition and omitted or neglected to maintain the area in a reasonably safe condition. Northern Panhandle circuit judge consolidates eight sexual abuse cases against Catholic Church

Bransfield NEW CUMBERLAND – A circuit judge has consolidated eight cases in two Northern Panhandle counties regarding sexual abuse claims against the Catholic Church. In a February 23 order, First Circuit Judge Michael Olejasz issued an order consolidating the cases against the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston before First Circuit Judge David Sims. Four of the cases – all filed in Hancock County – involve allegations a former priest sexually abused men in the 1980s when he worked at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Weirton. One involves allegations a man was sexually assaulted by Father James J. Chetock when he attended Weirton Madonna High School in the late 1970s. Another involves allegations a man was sexually assaulted by Reverend Richard J. Schaefer while he was assigned to St. Philomena Catholic Church in Rowlesburg.
