HCC Brings Home The Gold In Virtual CASE District III Award Ceremony

Hopkinsville Community College took home some gold awards during the CASE District III virtual awards ceremony. College officials said their advancement, public relations, and marketing team took home the awards in the Fundraising on a Shoestring category during the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awards Thursday night. HCC was one of only three community colleges receiving an award and the only community college in District III, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, to receive a Gold Award. According to CASE, the category won by HCC is designed for offices with limited staff, resources, and/or time. Entries should demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity by executing a fundraising initiative, activity, or event that had noteworthy, measurable outcomes.

HCC Hosting MLK Jr Virtual Event Thursday

Hopkinsville Community College will host a virtual program in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. College officials say the event will be in place of the school’s annual MLK, Jr. Day Celebration. The event will take place via Zoom, beginning at noon. Officials add his talk will cover King’s speech ‘Let There Be Peace On Earth.’ Pettus has been with the college for 24 years and is also the Pastor of Foston Chapel Baptist Church in Hopkinsville. He is a community leader with a passion for serving and engaging with students and young people throughout the Pennyrile area. Pettus is married to Victoria J. Pettus with two sons, 6 grandchildren, and 3 godchildren.

HCC student receives first scholarship named in memory of literacy council director

Herndon resident Sarah Bull remembers when she was in first grade struggling to read from a large, hardcover textbook with her family at home. “I could just not get the hang of it,” she said. “I would sit there with my dad for hours trying to learn how to read. Even now, I’m a really slow reader. I enjoy it, but I know it definitely takes me longer than the average reader to read the same sentence.” This week, Bull was awarded the first-ever Beverly Whitfield Memorial Textbook Scholarship from the Christian County Literacy Council. “It makes me really happy to know that people care, that people have scholarships like this that help people like me who don’t have a lot of money, but need education for what I want to do,” Bull said.

PHR Certification Exam Prep Class Coming To HCC

Hopkinsville Community College is partnering with BenchPrep HR Learning System to offer a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam prep class. Officials said the class would feature eight live interactive webinars led by Jonnie Smith, Strategic Human Resource Manager for Martinrea International in Hopkinsville. Smith has 17 years of experience in human resources and a master’s in Education Administration. The class will feature a comprehensive experience in union and non-union environments to provide real-world examples to complement the curriculum. The course includes a self-paced learning system and live webinars to cover fundamental objectives, review key content, and address test-taking strategies, study tips, and example questions. BenchPrep reports that candidates who use their system see scores improve by an average of 16%.
