Harris County Commissioners Court has moved the day-to-day responsibility of running all county departments to an unelected appointee chosen by the party in charge.
HOUSTON - With little notice to voters and taxpayers, a seismic shift in the governance of Harris County was approved in a typical 3-2 vote along partisan lines.

Harris County Judge Lina hidalgo continues to hear criticism over her COVID threat level, even after she finally lowered it to orange this week.
Judge Hidalgo this week admitted the positivity rate, which kept us in the red for the past year, was no longer useful because of the sharp drop in those being tested for COVID.
“She got her feet stuck in concrete on these original metrics and it became increasingly clear over time they were not good metrics, or it s nothing you can rely on. Nobody even talks about the positivity rate anymore,” says former mayoral candidate turned commentator Bill King.
