A witness said the shooter fired multiple shots into the family s vehicle. The girl is currently fighting for her life.
Quinton said her boyfriend, who was driving, honked at another car as he tried to change lanes. The encounter escalated and the family was shot at two different times.
At least six bullets were fired, Quinton said. One of them ended up hitting her daughter. One millimeter below, it would have done more damage. She probably wouldn t have made it [out] alive, said Quinton.
Joellie has Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that delays development. She is non-verbal.
The little girl has a 6-inch scar on the top of her head, which had to be shaved the night of the shooting. Quinton said she covered up mirrors at home to protect Joellie on her return.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) A man who was accused of shooting a 9-year-old girl in the head has been charged after what Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez described as a drive-by shooting linked to road rage last week.
Kenneth Ross Gray, 22, was taken into custody Tuesday night. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, after threatening the girl s father, and serious bodily injury to a child, according to court records.
Deputies responded to the 19900 block of Masters Manor Lane in the Katy area last Friday around 4:40 p.m. A witness told them a man, with his wife and two children in the car, stopped, got out and yelled for help. Moments later, another car pulled up.
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) A 15-year-old girl was shot in the arm in what Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is calling a possible road rage incident on the Katy freeway.
In a tweet posted Friday night, Gonzalez said the shooting happened along the Katy Freeway near Greenhouse Road. He said a person shot at another vehicle and ended up shooting the teen, who was a passenger, in the arm. The teen is [in] stable condition, but will require surgery, said Gonzalez.
