Houston man gets 60 years for deadly stabbing of common-law wife

HOUSTON - A Houston man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the deadly stabbing of his common-law wife in 2018, officials say.
According to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Xavier Alejandro Martinez, 28, was convicted of murder by a jury after a week-long trial and sentenced by a judge on Monday.
He will have to serve half of the sentence before he can be considered for parole.
Martinez was charged in the deadly stabbing of Josselin Yamileth, 32, at their apartment in the 4000 block of Galveston Road on May 23, 2018.

HOUSTON – Three female deputies filed a federal lawsuit Monday accusing a Texas constable of turning the office’s undercover operations into a “booze-fueled playground for sexual exploitation.”
The deputies, who either work or worked for the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office in Houston, alleged women were subjected to unwarranted touching and kissing, molestation and sexual ridicule during their work with the office’s human trafficking unit.
The lawsuit alleges the office of Constable Alan Rosen set up undercover sting operations that were supposed to ultimately arrest those behind sex trafficking businesses. But those operations turned more into parties where officers drank heavily and the female deputies, who were given little to no training in undercover work, were fondled and kissed by their supervisory officer or were told to give lap dances to other male deputies.

A Texas Constable’s office has been accused by several female deputies who worked undercover of “appalling” sexual misconduct carried out in some cases by their superiors during alcohol-fueled “bachelor party sting” operations ostensibly aimed at fighting sex trafficking, according to a new lawsuit filed in federal court.
The undercover missions were allegedly designed to nab sex workers in the hopes that they’d be willing to cooperate by revealing higher-ranking players in sex-trafficking rings, but according to attorney Cordt Akers, who represents several of the female deputies involved in the lawsuit, these “bachelor party” style stings devolved into a “booze-filled environment” where female deputies were sexually molested, fondled and kissed by their male colleagues.
