The shutdown of a pipeline that carries gasoline and other fuel from Texas to the Northeast is continuing.
“It is relatively easy to hack a business network,” said James Lewis, a cybersecurity expert and a senior vice president at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “It’s harder to hack the industrial network. Colonial did everything right after it was hacked. But we don’t yet know if Colonial made the right move to prevent the hackers from crossing over.”
By Monday, the company reported, it was bringing back online segments of the pipeline, which supplies about 45% of the jet fuel, gasoline and heating oil consumed on the East Coast. White House officials said the shutdown was not likely to cause fuel shortages or lead to a rise in gas prices.

Scott Stringer is denying accusations of sexual assault and harassment in what has become a grim refrain in New York politics.
Jean Kim, a lobbyist who said she was a former intern on Stringer’s failed public advocate campaign in 2001, said the career politician and leading New York City mayoral candidate repeatedly groped her against her will and demanded, “Why won’t you f - me?” when she was working on the campaign.
Acting Mayor Kim Janey this week announced the appointment of JP’s Sean Lydon as the Interim Commissioner of the Inspectional Services Department (ISD).
Marc Joseph will assume the role of Deputy Building Commissioner, and Paul Williams will assume the role of Assistant Housing Commissioner. ISD administers and enforces building, housing, health, sanitation and safety regulations mandated by city and state governments. Inspectional Services is made up of five regulatory divisions charged with serving the public by protecting the health, safety and environmental stability of Boston’s business and residential communities.
