Man stabbed in fight outside New Smyrna bar by off-duty Daytona police officer

An off-duty Daytona Beach police officer was arrested for stabbing a man during a fight outside a bar in New Smyrna Beach on Wednesday night, officials said. The officer was identified as Shane P. Jackson, 50. He was initially charged with aggravated battery but after police reviewed video footage of the fight the charge was amended to attempted premeditated murder, said New Smyrna Beach police spokesman Lt. Christopher Kirk. Daytona Beach police Chief Jakari Young said initially Thursday that he had placed Jackson on unpaid administrative leave until the investigation of the incident is completed. But later the chief released another statement saying he had seen some of the evidence.
