The BBC has been looking at what the role entails and how it came into being in 2017. Why does Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have a mayor? Mayors exist at local authorities up and down the country. Some, such as in Bedford, are elected and work as the leaders of councils. Many are ceremonial and have no administrative power, instead acting as a figurehead for the area they represent.

HMP Peterborough: Prison nurse banned after death of inmate

She died in hospital in September 2017 after being restrained and left on her cell floor for 21 hours. Mrs Watts admitted the misconduct and apologised for her lack of care. An inquest held in 2019 heard Ms Landsberg was restrained after she grabbed at a prison officer s leg as they tried to administer medication. She was left on the floor overnight and in the morning Mrs Watts, who was doing her rounds, said she observed her through the cell window, moving and breathing.

Sophie Eyers suffered physical, emotional and financial abuse throughout her six-month relationship. - Credit: Cambs Police A brave domestic abuse survivor has told of a “reign of terror” at the hands of her partner who punched, spat and stamped on her before threatening her with a meat cleaver.  Sophie Eyers was subjected to physical, emotional and financial abuse throughout her six-month relationship with Samuel James, 30, before he was jailed in July 2019.  James, formerly of Brownlow Road, St Ives, was jailed for three years and given a restraining order for ten years.  Sophie has now recorded a film with Cambridgeshire Police to courageously share her experience as part of World Voice Day.
