The rainfall is not only impacting homes, it is also affecting farmland.
An employee from the Mercedes-based SRS Farms said his crops have been damaged from the rain. It s just that cotton you know, they ll ruin,” Danny Moreno said. “The sorghum, it ll sprout and we can t get in there.
Moreno also shared with Channel 5 News photos of a railroad crossing over a nearby canal that has started to sink.
A representative from Hidalgo County Precinct 1said their priority is to get water out of urbanized areas where there are houses and businesses, and not farmland.
The rain may have stopped temporarily, but residents in Mercedes and Weslaco are still dealing with floodwater.
Some residents in the flood-prone areas have been unable to reach their homes since evacuating due to the high waters.
In a social media post, Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner David Fuentes said anyone needing help evacuating their homes could call the Precinct 1 Constable s Office at 956-447-3775.

Some families in the Rio Grande Valley are still stuck inside their homes with nowhere else to go after this week s flooding.
Mission resident Rebecca Rodriguez said the floodwater covered the entire back portion of her family s home. The water has feces, Rodriguez said. It s coming out with water spiders; they have eggs on their backs [there are] water snakes.
As the water continues to rise, so do the family s worries.
Residents are urging county leaders to help, adding that many families in the area have nowhere else to go.
