Neighbors: First-time alderman Hannant looking forward to learning, leading David Blanchette, Journal-Courier FacebookTwitterEmail 2of3 3of3 William “Kent” Hannant had no political experience when he joined the race for Jacksonville’s Ward 3 alderman.  “It was something I always talked about doing,” the 50-year-old Hannant said, “but I was always that guy that didn’t like everything that went on in politics.”  Hannant is now one of three newly elected first-time aldermen. He was sworn in April 26 and will experience his first City Council meeting as an elected public official on May 10.  The journey has been a whirlwind for Hannant, who received the exact number of votes in the April 6 election, 169, as the incumbent, Brandon Adams. The winner had to be determined by a card draw supervised by the Morgan County state’s attorney and county clerk.
