Council leader, Cllr Emlyn Dole THE leader of Carmarthenshire Council has pledged to get the county’s economy moving again, and said many changes forced upon the authority by the Covid pandemic had turned out to be positive. Plaid Cymru councillor Emlyn Dole, who was giving his annual report to full council, said: “Carmarthenshire can and will and come out of this better.” Labour opposition leader, Cllr Rob James, said he felt the report “glosses over” the challenges faced by the county. Cllr Dole said “normal” still seemed a little further ahead but noted the progress of the vaccination programme, with 60 per cent of adults in the Hywel Dda University Health Board area having received their first jab, and 27 per cent both jabs.

There have been no new coronavirus-related deaths and just 44 new cases of the virus reported in the last 24 hours, latest figures show. The data, published by Public Health Wales (PHW) on Wednesday, May 19, brings the overall number of positive cases since the pandemic began to 212,316.

Dewi Griffiths of St Clears raises £2,500 for NHS from his 90th birthday bike ride
Dewi said: âI feel very fortunate that at 90 years of age I am able to cycle at all, let alone cycle five miles. GREAT-granddad Dewi Griffiths got on his bike to celebrate his 90th birthday and support the local NHS. Sprightly Dewi cycled five miles around his home in St Clears to raise £2,500 for Cilgerran children s ward at Glangwili Hospital. And he chose the ward for a very good reason - he has 20 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Dewi said: “I feel very fortunate that at 90 years of age I am able to cycle at all, let alone cycle five miles, and to be able to collect money and donate to Cilgerran Ward makes it all worthwhile. “
