Though Congress and AIUDF have always fought polls against each other, the alliance of the two rivals is banking on their chemistry to win the minority-dominated seats of Lower Assam this time.
AIUDF is in the fray in 12 seats in the Lower Assam region, which will vote in the third phase on April 6. 40 assembly seats are going to polls on April 6.
Voters in Lower Assam, one of the less developed areas of the state, are being wooed by all political parties on the development plank. And central to this development story is the under-construction 22-km Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded bridge –– the country s longest–– which is expected to revolutionise the economy and connectivity of Southern Assam and Meghalaya.
