No Alcohol In Convenience Stores: Mayor

Ontario’s Big City Mayors are making their voices heard on the possibility of selling alcohol in convenience stores. In a letter addressed to four members of the provincial government, including Attorney General Doug Downey, Chair and Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman says there are a few reasons why the mayors say no to this proposal brought forward by the Convenience Store Association. “Convenience stores have not been negatively affected by the pandemic, they have been allowed to stay open and many of us on the call felt this would give an unfair advantage relative to some other businesses that have suffered,” said Mayor Mauro. “There was also a number on the call that expressed concerns about the convenience store business is not the place that you might get the best control of the sale of alcohol.”

Conservatives Calling For More Action To End Water Advisories

Dryden, ON, Canada / CKDR Mar 14, 2021 7:00 AM The Conservatives believe the federal government isn’t doing enough to end all long-term drinking water advisories on reserves. Gary Vidal is the Shadow Minister for Indigenous Services and says the government has no clear plan and continues to break promises. Vidal says, “In 2015, the government promised to end all long-term boil water notices but more than five years later, we know when the plan falls apart, the Prime Minister retreats.” He stresses success isn’t measured by funding announcements and election promises, it’s measured by outcomes. Vidal says for over a year the Conservatives have been asking the Minister of Indigenous Services to look at alternate solutions to end long-term drinking water advisories.

NDP Leader Outraged With Ford Vaccination Comments

Sol Mamakwa Twitter Page Andrea Horwath says she’s shocked and considerably concerned with the remarks of Premier Doug Ford towards the MPP for Kiiwetinoong. The leader of the NDP has sent a letter to the premier after Sol Mamakwa was accused of “jumping the line” to get his COVID-19 shot. Horwath says the remarks amount to a reckless, and dangerous undermining of multiple interlocking efforts by First Nations, local governments, Ontario, public health authorities, and the Government of Canada to ensure all Indigenous adults, both on and off reserve receive the vaccine. She adds Mamakwa took part in a campaign to combat vaccine hesitancy in Indigenous communities by being publicly vaccinated at the request of First Nations and public health leaders.
