State logs 6,711 fresh COVID-19 cases; 19 more persons succumb to the infection
Chennai and its neighbouring districts Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram accounted for almost half of the 6,711 new COVID-19 cases reported in the State on Monday.
The State reported over 6,000 cases for a second consecutive day, taking the aggregate to 9,40,145. The number of active cases surged past 45,000 to 46,308, of which Chennai accounted for 17,098, followed by 4,378 in Coimbatore and 4,085 in Chengalpattu. In Chennai, 2,105 people tested positive for the infection. The city’s neighbouring districts continued to record a surge Chengalpattu had 611 cases, Tiruvallur 333 and Kancheepuram 277. Coimbatore reported 604 cases, while there were 219 in Madurai. A total of 10 districts reported 100-plus cases
No fresh case in Perambalur; 23 districts report fewer than 10 infections each
Tamil Nadu reported 510 new cases of COVID-19 and four deaths on Tuesday. The fresh cases took the State’s tally to 8,39,352, while the toll stood at 12,367.
There was no new case in Perambalur, while 23 districts had fewer than 10 cases each. There were 142 cases in Chennai, 54 in Coimbatore, 33 in Tiruvallur, 27 each in Chengalpattu and Erode and 24 in Tiruppur.
Chennai’s tally stood at 2,31,563, while Coimbatore accounted for a total of 54,500 cases and Chengalpattu 51,607.
As many as 521 persons were discharged following treatment. A total of 8,22,468 persons have been discharged in the State so far. Chennai, Kanniyakumari, Sivaganga and Tenkasi reported one death each. All four deceased had co-morbidities. They included an 87-year-old man from Sivaganga who had diabetes and was admitted to the Government Corona Hospital, Chennai, on January 31. He died on the same day due to severe COVID-19

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 510 Covid-19 positive cases and four deaths on Tuesday, taking the tally to 8,39,352 and toll to 12,367.
The State also vaccinated 8,058 healthcare workers and frontline workers.
Chennai reported 142 cases and one death on the day. After 140 people were discharged, the city had only 1,584 active cases.
Chennai s neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 27, 17 and 33 cases respectively. Perambalur district reported zero cases while 23 districts reported less than 10 new cases.
